I don’t play MMOs. I just don’t and I have an inexhaustible list of reasons why.
Final Fantasy XIV, however, seems to have broken my rule. I have mentioned before that I don’t play MMOs and I feel the Final Fantasy franchise overrated (although I still very much enjoy playing them.In fact I think I have been talking about them a lot lately…), so what makes FFXIV different?
Well for one it’s on the console. I know other MMOs are also, but FFXIV is so fluid and integrated into the controls that it’s hard to remember that it is an MMO. Not to mention the gorgeous graphics. Everything is just so beautiful, both aesthetically and design-wise (I am a fan of the architecture…)
The map is pretty big also. Not as big as some, but big enough that I sometimes get lazy and warp or ride a Chocobo. However, there is so much to do in each area that if you need to go to a new one to start/complete a quest or continue the storyline, then there is much to entertain you on your way.
To me, it is the little things that make or break a game for me. Just those little nuances that can genuinely ruin an otherwise great game. So far, I can’t find a single thing I dislike about the game other than there is so many options in terms of character customization and jobs that I am having a hard time choosing.
I am excited that my fiancé is deciding on which subscription to buy. I don’t really have the money to pay for a subscription every month, so this way, I’ll still be able to play.
